Conker Hunting October 2016 #chasingnature

Conker Hunting October 2016 #chasingnature
My parents still live in the same house that I grew up in, from the age of two and a half. They live in a tiny village in the Gloucestershire countryside – about 15 minutes from where we live now. I didn’t really appreciate how lucky I was to grow up there – surrounded by fields and animals. We still live in a country town, but its not the same as a village. Most Saturdays we go to Nanny and Grampy’s when Ell is playing football, and take the opportunity wherever possible to get the kids out for a walk.
Every year that I can remember of my childhood, we went to visit the same conker tree at the bottom of the village to hunt for conkers. The same tree that my mum had hunted for conkers at when she was a little girl. Apparently my mum and her friends would play there, and they named it ‘Conker tree Manor’. I think its amazing that I now take my kids conker hunting at this tree. A few Saturdays ago we went on a conker hunt – we easily found a carrier bags worth – and Izzie found a conker ‘triplet’! I have been doing this walk at least once a month since Izzie was born, and all three kids have grown up loving going to see the horses – I think they recognise us now and always come over! We call Izzie the horse whisperer, as they are never as keen to come over when she isn’t there during term time.
These are some photos from our conker hunt. There is also a vlog of this weekend that I will link below, and i’ve added some photos at the end that I took whilst out for a river walk with Harley on the Sunday.

I was brought up in rural Gloucestershire so I must admit I have concentrating on the background of your photos to see if I recognise where you are! #ChasingNature

Such a fun tradition to pass down to your kids. I'm am way over in California, and have absolutely no idea what a conker is. Now I'm jealous and want to go for a conker hunt. #chasingnature

A conker is the seed of a horse chestnut tree…do you have those in California? Conker hunts are great fun – you can play games with them too, but they can get a bit violent! x

How lovely to take your children to the same tree as where you and your mum played, not many people have that history these days. Beautiful photos as well 🙂 #ChasingNature

Aww, I love this story! It's so lovely that you still go there even now. I used to go for a walk with my mum, and we used to pass some horses, too. I'd do my best horse impression in an attempt to coax them over, and most of the time they'd pop up for a quick cuddle over the fence.

I love your photos. And that horse is so beautiful!!
