The Discovery Adventures podcast by Landrover

As a family, the majority of our family holidays are based in the UK. Primarily for ease due to the amount of things we have to take with three young children – nappies, sippy cups, and pushchairs – plus their scooters and helmets for exploring. I think I’ve actually become quite good at getting everything packed (tightly!) into the car and remembering what we need. One thing I’m not so good at though is entertaining the kids during the car journey.

This year we have visited Cornwall twice, and most recently Wales. Each time, the journey has been over 2 hours, and I don’t like the idea of the kids sitting on a iPad for the whole time we are in the car. Another reason we travel within the UK is to show the kids the beautiful countryside we live in, and they don’t get to see that staring at a film on an iPad.

On the other hand, there are only so many times you can listen to The “Wheels on the Bus”, and so I was excited to find out that Land Rover had released a new podcast series – #TheDiscoveryAdventures , designed to be listened to in the car – and it is suitable for the whole family. Obviously you can listen to it anywhere – but in the car when you are travelling seems like the perfect opportunity to me, especially on our recent trip to Wales.

The Discovery Adventures by LandRover is a mystery drama podcast featuring 7 episodes, all under 20 minutes long, and each episode features amazing, authentic stories set in specific UK Locations. The story follows Sam and Uncle, who he is staying with for a week (oh and his dog Rover),  on a mysterious adventure, that takes them from The Natural History Museum, London, to St Micheal’s Mount, Cornwall and lots of other beautiful locations across the UK in between. Each episode is designed to inspire you with the help of the great British outdoors, as Sam (who is you as the listener) and his uncle aim to unravel the mystery behind nationwide GPS disruptions. The series features a host of acting and sporting talent and outdoor experts within each episode. The series was made in conjunction with Gareth Fry, a Tony & Olivier award-winning sound pioneer. Each episode was recorded in different locations across the UK in Binaural Sound, which creates a 3D effect for the listener.

Both myself, Ell and the kids enjoyed listening to The Discovery Adventures- especially since there were are few locations that we have actually visited as a family. I would highly recommend the podcast if you are off on a car journey  – or even if you are just looking for something to listen to as the nights are now drawing in.

It has definitely made me more aware of how intriguing and entertaining podcasts can be and I will definitely be looking to them more for our next road trip.

For now, though I’ll enjoy looking back through some of the photos we took on our travels this year…

What a good idea, I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a podcast but they seem to be really popular, so maybe I need to try?! I live very near to Charlestown 🙂 gorgeous photos.

I’m jealous that Wales was only a 2 hour drive for you guys haha. This is such a good idea though! Cx
