FINISHING TOUCHES FOR OUR (BABY FREE) BEDROOM – Prints by Desenio |AD

When it comes to my home and how its decorated, I find that (much to my husbands dismay) I get bored of colours very easily. We have lived in this house for 11 years and in that time, our bedroom has been cream & lime green (why?!), red and brown (I don’t even have an excuse but it was like a dungeon), dark purple, and until recently, grey with floral wallpaper. As much as the grey wallpaper lightened up the room from its predecessor colours, it didn’t feel modern enough for me.

I’m a huge fan of anything copper, or rose gold and you can find accents of it throughout our house. When Ottilie finally moved out of our room a month ago at the grand old age of 9 months old, I finally had time to think about what I wanted to do with the room. With Elliot being a decorator, I didn’t want to change anything too dramatically, lest he decided he’d finally had enough of me. We ended up keeping three walls that were painted grey the same, stripping the floral wall paper and painting it in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Stiffkey Blue’. We also replaced our bedside tables and I picked up some gorgeous table lamps with a copper base. When we had wallpaper, we didn’t have any prints or photos on the wall as it would’ve looked too busy, but I wasn’t sure where to start, except that I wanted copper frames if possible.

In this house we are no stranger to a gallery wall, having got them in most rooms of the house, including all the way up our stairs, however these are all featuring photographs of our family. For our bedroom I wanted to pick some prints, but I wanted them to have some meaning to them.

Browsing the Desenio website, they have such a large selection of different prints and artwork, and a really handy feature where you can ‘heart’ the ones that you like. I spent an hour or so going through the different prints and clicked the little heart for any of the ones I potentially wanted. This meant they were saved, and I could go through and eliminate the ones that I didn’t make the cut. Once I had narrowed my prints down to the ones I wanted, I drew out roughly on a piece of a paper the layout and sizes I wanted and proceeded to choose the print sizes and the corresponding frames, of which there was also a massive choice.

Of my selection, I picked the ‘BIRD SKY’ print, because it reminded me of the quote from The Notebook (my favourite film) – ‘If you are a bird, then I’m a bird’. I picked the ‘RESTFUL’ waves print, because we are always at our happiest when we are by the sea, and my favourite is the ‘PERFECTLY IMPERFECT‘ print, because on our 10th wedding anniversary I made a video montage of our last 10 years and the lyrics of the song sing about being ‘perfectly imperfect’. The other prints were chosen because of the ‘love/bed theme’ and the floral print, because peonies are my favourite flower.

As far as the service from Desenio goes, it was easy to navigate the website and place my order, and it arrived in less than a week after ordering with free delivery included if you spend over £29. The frames all came well packaged in a large box, with the prints in a cardboard folder to keep them safe. I love that the frames have clear plastic inside instead of glass, mainly because of having young children who like to use our bed as a trampoline, its definitely peace of mind. The prints look stunning against the blue wall and I’m absolutely thrilled to bits with them.

I also picked up this gorgeous highland cow print (again in a copper frame), as its been a standing joke between us, because of living in the Cotswolds, wherever we seem to go, people aways have prints of cows and we didn’t own one. I love how it looks in my kitchen as I have various copper aspects in there too, such as this letter rack.

I will definitely be shopping with Desenio again, as I’m planning on making over the ensuite next, and they have such a lovely range of prints to choose from. I cant wait to get shopping – just don’t tell my husband I’ve always bought the paint!!!!
