What I’ve Learnt as a Mum of Three

What I’ve Learnt as a Mum of Three
Never get too excited for plans until they happen as a child will get ill/bump/tantrum – the amount of meals out/days out/nights out we’ve had to cancel because something has happened to one of them – but I wouldn’t be anywhere else obviously.
Embrace the mess – your house will never be tidy again – I can get upstairs tidy, or downstairs but never both at the same time. And there is always a little person going behind you and pulling out what you’ve just put away. Or one encouraging another one to do it….
Organisation is key – Its the same for having kids generally, but with threee you need to be extra organised, as you are three times more likely to be late or forget something. Lists are your friend.
Even an organised mum will balls up once a day -following on from my previous point, best laid plans and all. Usually I forget Izzie’s water bottle, or forget show and tell – or forget to get something out of the freezer for dinner. The lovely man at the Pizza shop has saved my ass more than once….
You will never drink a hot drink again* – lukewarm coffee doesnt burn your mouth though!
*unless they are sleeping/at school/preschool
The washing pile goes from manageable to extreme – this was my biggest shocker after having Mason. I have to do a solid two loads of washing a day to keep up with the never ending uniform, tiny pants and jeans that grace the top of the laundry bin (no one seems to realise it opens and your can put dirty clothes inside SHOCKER!!)
Bedroom sharing sucks – if like Ollie and Mason, your kids share room, they will never settle for bed first time ever again. One of them always keeps the other awake, or they chat awake (which is actually pretty cute).
Your house will always be loud – oh the noise levels – my kids are never quiet all at the same time – and if they are, they talk in their sleep or snore – pretty hilarious though.
Taking family photos is painful – you can take 15 shots and not everyone will be looking at the camera!
Always have 10 minute buffer when you need to get out the house – I am always late, even if I try and leave early.
Someone will always need the toilet as you leave the house – or does a pooey nappy as you are going out the door.
The ‘Middle Child’ is not a Myth – in my experience. Ollie is very much a stereotypical middle child – he is a lot more demanding, and highly strung than the other two. I’m not sure if this because he was used to being the baby, or just his personality, but it does make it challenging.
The highs outweigh the lows – seeing the love your kids have for each other is priceless – even if they do try and rip chunks out of each other. Having three kids is really the best.

I would love to hear opinions of other mums of three or more children? Do you agree, disagree or have anything add? If you do please leave a comment below.

Aww I'm at 2 at the moment and although not saying no to a third….I'm close to being pretty much done. A lot of what you have written sounds like my house anyway…though as I write this I'm drinking a cuppa, the baby is sleeping and my eldest is playing in her room!!! Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x

I have two and they are enough to keep my hands full. Thanks for enlightening me as to how you manage three. #bestandworst
