The Me & Mine Project – December 2016

The Me & Mine Project – December 2016
This month I’m so happy to be linking up, for the final month of 2016, with the wonderful Me & Mine Project. I was planning to take some photos of the five of us over Christmas with the tree as a backdrop, but this month has been so crazy busy, and then Christmas didn’t really go to plan – both myself and Izzie came down with a sickness bug on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and Ell felt a bit funny a few days after Christmas.
In our Christmas lunch photo, you can see Izzie looking very pale – she understandably didn’t eat anything  after being very sick late on Christmas Eve. It was quite disappointing as we had planned to visit our local pub that was putting on a party for the children and Santa was going to be there. We were all bathed and ready, and just as I was getting dressed Ell shouted up that Izzie had been sick. Bless her, she was white as a sheet, and went straight to bed, and was poorly several more times. She also missed all the Christmas Eve traditions, including the reindeer food, the movie and popcorn, and she threw up all over her Christmas PJs, poor munch. She woke up Christmas morning feeling much better luckily, and managed to enjoy Christmas Day.
I was feeling quite smug as I managed to cook a huge Christmas Dinner, and watched the kids open all their presents. Around 4pm I started feeling exhausted and thought it was time for a Christmas Day nap – I woke up feeling very strange, and decided to jump in the bath. This is about when the sickness started, and carried on until 6am on Boxing Day. I would say I’ve never felt so sick, but last Christmas Eve I had the same thing, and so did the rest of the family. I’m not sure why sickness bugs seem drawn to us at Christmas but I’m hoping for way better luck next year.
Its such a shame as I was looking forward to some lovely quality family time, after a busy month. It really has been the month of sickness in the Brushneen house, as Mason was hospitalised for Bronchiolitis – so so scary, by the time we got to A&E they couldn’t hear any breath sounds going in, and it took a nights stay, and another week to recover – I also missed Ollie’s nativity as I couldn’t leave Mason due to him needing inhalers regularly. He has fully recovered, but having to give him the inhalers was heartbreaking as it upset him so much – it took two if us to pin him down and administer it, but they worked wonders. Luckily we were able to get a DVD of the Nativity, which was amazing – Ollie was a brilliant king on his camel!
Ollie then came down with a ear infection and had some nasty discharge leaking from his ear the day before his birthday, and had to have a course of antibiotics. Talking of Ollie’s birthday, he had an amazing time turning 4, and was totally spoilt with presents and two gatherings – one at soft play, which weirdly was dead the weekend before Christmas!
Even the dog managed to injure his paw, and the cat got a water infection – no one escaped the Christmas Poorly Curse evidently, and I started and failed miserably at Vlogmas – it was a learning curve though, and has made me more aware of where I am going in 2017 with my channel.
We had managed to squeeze in a visit to Father Christmas and iceskating between the bouts of illness, and a drive around to see the local Christmas lights. As you can see from the photo, Mase wasn’t overly impressed by Father Christmas – he’s such a happy chap that when he gets upset it is quite comical – we did expect his reaction though, as he had taken a huge dislike to a cuddly Santa that was part of our decorations, and kept wandering up and hitting it.
This was our third Christmas in a row with someone being ill. That said we were all totally spoilt, and very lucky to be able to spend our Christmas with family and friends that we love, despite the vomming.  I’m so glad that all of us seem to be over the worst of the illness – the decorations are now down, we’ve had a huge clear out, and swept away the cobwebs (does anyone else not dust when the decorations are up?!) and I’m planning to start 2017 with a positive outlook, and hopefully no more bugs. I think December always makes us more susceptible as everyone is tired, and busy and trying to squeeze loads of things in, and when you stop, the bugs hit.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and from all of us, to you and yours we wish you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR – bring it on 2017!
