The Siblings Project – September 2017

The Siblings Project – September 2017

It’s the middle of September and I’m excited for all things Autumn – expect all the coloured leaves photos in the next few months. I also can’t believe we are nearly on the countdown to Christmas!

The last month for my three was a bit of a game changer. I have to say I was dreading the summer holidays as the last few months have been all about the arguing between Izzie and Ollie. I think that Izzie has been used to being the older, more dominant one and as Ollie has got bigger and found his own voice and personality, it’s inevitably caused friction.

The summer holidays changed that. I remember very few occasions where I had to split them up – there were the obvious disagreements over what was on the tv or who was playing with what, but it was lovely.

They even ended up sharing a room for the last few weeks of the holidays as they wanted to have a sleepover in the bunk beds in Izzies room.

September has brought the start of school, and a sort of return to normality. Ollie has been doing half days to wean him into starting school, and he’s taken it totally in his stride. Izzie has been very gracious about him being at school – I would even go as far as to say she has secretly been quite proud. Ollie has told me several times she’s been showing him to her friends through the fence between the playgrounds.

For Mason this has brought some changes, although due to Ollie’s half days they are yet to take effect as he has still been home rather a lot. I think he is going to enjoy being top dog during school hours though. He has also become much more cantankerous this month – not listening, refusing to be strapped into his car seat and saying no a lot – although as terrible twos go, its really not bad.

This month all Izzie has talked about is us having another baby – I have no idea where it’s come from, and I promise I haven’t been putting ideas in her head. That doesn’t mean I’m opposed to the idea though, and even Ell has realised it’s strange in the house without a little little one now that Mason is getting bigger. Who knows what the future will bring. Izzie has taken being back at school very well, loving her new class and without too much resistance to the extra work.

This months photos were a bit of a rush job – in their PJs before getting dressed for school. It’s getting increasingly harder to get a photo of them all looking in the right direction these days, but these photos sum up our last few weeks – dishevelled! I’m hoping that from Monday when Ollie starts full time school we can find our feet and our new normal. Having two at school is a different ball game. Two lots of homework (Izzie hates it, Ollie so far loves it), and a crazy amount of uniform to wash at the weekend.
I think we are all currently living for the weekends, and I know that having two children at school will definitely make us appreciate the family time, fresh air and lazy Sundays so much more. They’ve been so tired – I think you can tell in these photos – and I’m hoping things will settle down for us all very soon.

This month Izzie has been loving:
Styling Her Hair – she’s been coming out with some interesting hairstyles!
Being back at school with her friends
Reading – she’s so fluent now and it makes me so proud, considering how much she struggled when she first started.

This month Ollie has been loving:
Starting school
Reading books and homework – he’s so excited and keen to do his homework – I’ll not bet on it lasting though.
His first cinema trip to see the Emoji Movie

This month Mason has been loving:
Peppa Pig – he is obsessed (Peppa was on the tv whilst I was taking this photo – he only has eyes for her).
Passing his two year check with flying colours, despite his slight speech delay. His speech has come on so much in the last month.
Tantrums – the terrible twos have hit big time – and he is taking great delight in saying NO! to everything.

I am so not an autumn/winter person, though I do love a snuggly evening with candles! The summer holidays are just so lovely for siblings aren’t they?
